JR is passionate about preaching, passionate about loving people, and passionate about living life with folks. His favorite thing about his job is that it allows him to do all of those things on the regular.
JR received his Masters of Divinity with an emphasis in Theology from George W. Truett Theological Seminary in 2007. He was an itinerant preacher from 2002-2007 while in seminary, and started a Contemporary Worship service in North Hollywood at FCC of North Hollywood in 2004-2005. From 2007-2012 he was a College Pastor at First Baptist Church in Jonesboro, Arkansas. From 2012-2015 he was in Waco, Texas, where he served on staff at Antioch Discipleship School and worked as the Associate Director of Spiritual Formation for the Department of Spiritual Life at Baylor University.
JR’s favorite things about Salt Lake City are the Jazz and Real Salt Lake, living inside of a post card, the fact that the mountains are a constant backdrop, and all the incredible people he gets to meet. In his free time, you can find him at the gym competing for the “smallest guy in the gym award,” playing basketball, beating his friends at FIFA, tracking down his favorite restaurants in town, hanging with his wife, or trying to figure out why his Shih Tzu that looks like an Ewok can’t talk yet.
